Founded in 1890, Simpson is one of the oldest, continuously operating forest products companies in the Pacific Northwest. Its operating subsidiaries are Simpson Door Company and Simpson Tacoma Kraft Company, LLC.
Simpson Lumber Company, LLC owns production facilities in Tacoma, Shelton and Longview, Washington; Meldrim, Georgia; and Georgetown, South Carolina, where it converts logs into dimension lumber. The company lumber operations generate the majority of the company’s biomass which is derived from residuals from its saw milling and is sold and used to fuel biomass power plants. Simpson Door Company, headquartered in McCleary, Washington, produces high-quality interior and exterior wood doors. Simpson Tacoma Kraft Company, LLC manufactures bleached and unbleached kraft pulp and linerboard at its mill in Tacoma, Washington. The mill employs some of the most advanced paper recycling techniques available. The mill recycles some 500 tons of waste paper and boxes every day, turning it into high-quality packaging paper while improving the environment. Simpson’s forest product manufacturing operations support over 1300 jobs company wide.
The company operates 4 biomass power boilers generating heat and steam for use in wood and paper product manufacturing. The company’s kraft mill in Tacoma, Washington, operates a 60 MW biomass combined heat and power facility.
